SIP Distinguished Fellows are outstanding role models and stalwarts of SIP's community of changemakers in shaping a more inclusive, sustainable, and better world. | SIP Distinguished Fellow Award 2009 | Rob Walton has served as the Chairman of the Board of Wal-Mart since 1992. In this role, he has seen Wal-Mart grow to serve more than 200 million customers per week at more than 8,000 retail units in 15 countries, generating $401 billion in sales in fiscal year 2009. Under Mr. Walton’s leadership, Wal-Mart has leveraged their position as the world’s leading retailer to catalyze a sustainability movement throughout its supply chain, as well as within its retail operations. Wal-Mart’s many commitments feed into three primary focus areas: promoting renewable energy, eliminating waste, and selling sustainable products. Mr. Walton is a Trustee of Wooster College and Arizona State University’s Global Institute of Sustainability, as well as a member of Conservation International’s Board of Directors. He also sits on the Board of the Walton Family Foundation, which has made considerable investments in conserving the world’s freshwater and marine resources. Since 2006, the Walton Family Foundation has donated nearly $100 million to protecting marine habitat, preserving freshwater resources, and promoting sustainable fisheries. |  S Robson Walton Chairman, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., USA | | | SIP Distinguished Fellow Award 2008 | Jet Li, born in Beijing, began his career as a five-time national wushu champion, in which role he was selected to represent China through martial arts demonstrations in over 45 nations. He subsequently launched a film career that has made him one of the world's most recognized actors. To date, he has starred in over 35 feature films. Today, Jet comes before us as a philanthropist. He has in recent years devoted much of his time and thought to creating a 21st century philanthropic business model centered around professionalism, transparency, impact, and sustainability. The Red Cross Society of China Jet Li One Foundation was established in April 2007 under his guidance and his vision. Deeply committed to his philanthropic work, Jet made the decision to put all movie projects on hold during 2008 so that he could concentrate on guiding the Foundation's growth both in China and beyond. |
