John Hope Bryant is a philanthropic entrepreneur and leader in the business of empowerment. He is the founder, chairman, and CEO of Operation HOPE, America's first nonprofit social investment banking organization. Since 1992, HOPE has raised more than $500 million in its pursuit of educating and inspiring the next generation of global stakeholders and empowered more than one million adults and over 400,000 youth in financial literacy. He is vice chair of the U.S. President's Advisory Council on Financial Literacy and a respected international public speaker. He a serves as a Young Global Leader for the World Economic Forum and sits on its Global Agenda Councils’ for Financial Empowerment. His work to eradicate the poverty has garnered him more than 400 awards and citations, including the Use Your Life Award by Oprah Winfrey. Calvin Chin is co-founder and CEO of Shanghai-based Qifang, a web service for Chinese students to find a way to pay for their education. Using a person-to-person lending and donation model, Chinese students use Qifang to connect to individuals, companies and organizations that support their educational dreams. Qifang is also a community for learning financial literacy and finding career development opportunities like internships, mentoring and jobs. In 2008, the World Economic Forum recognized Qifang as a Technology Pioneer; the first company from China to win this honor, joining notable visionary companies like Google, Wikipedia and Mozilla. Calvin is a serial entrepreneur who has over fourteen years of experience in start-ups in New York, Silicon Valley and China. Calvin also advises and gives talks to entrepreneurs and students on startup strategy, management, and marketing. Calvin has an MBA from TRIUM (NYU, LSE, HEC Paris) and a B.A. from Yale University.

Mr. Suhas Gopinath, now aged 22, a resident of Bangalore and hails from a middle class family, where his father was a defense scientist. At the age of 14 he was recognized as the world’s youngest certified Professional Web developer through his project coolhindustan.com. Mr. Gopinath was very assertive to be an entrepreneur and wanted to encourage the youth, he setup Globals Inc, in the year 2000 at San Jose, California as the laws in India did not allow him to setup a company in the country as he was still minor. From then Globals Inc has drastically grown as a Multi-national IT consulting company with representation in more than 11 countries. Mr. Suhas Gopinath at the age of 16 was recognized as the world’s youngest entrepreneur in by CNBC and e-Business, Canada. With this at the age of 17 he was recognized as the World's Youngest CEO by leading media outlets across the globe including BBC, Washington Times, The Age, etc., including Limca Book of Records. He is also designated as the resource person for Entrepreneurship at IIM Ahmadabad, and Advisory Board member at IIT Bombay Entrepreneurship Cell. In the year 2005, he became the youngest recipient of the prestigious Rajyotsava Award conferred on him by the State Government of Karnataka. Along with his professional activities, he has also volunteered as the Brand ambassador of PeTA and also the Youth Ambassador for Indo-Pak Leadership Program organized by School of Leadership, Pakistan.

Ms Melissa Aratani Kwee is the oldest daughter of Kwee Liong Tek and his, a property tycoon who is the chairman of Pontiac Land. Her family instilled in her a 'very strong ethic or value of playing your part, doing your bit and contributing what you have'. Upon her graduation from Harvard, she returned to Singapore in 1995 and set up a non-profit for the development of women and youth called Project Access. She attributes her heightened social consciousness to the school she attended here, United World College, and its 'incredibly-compelling vision of young people being a positive force in their communities'.

Melissa spends much of her time doing corporate communications for the Pontiac Land group while sitting on a number of organizations such as the United Nations Development Fund for Women (Unifem), the Singapore Repertory Theatre and the United World College school board, either doing review work or 'organizing, advocating or connecting people. This in addition to her activities of speaking to youths or conducting workshops on volunteering, global awareness, leadership and family, or dabbling in schemes from AIDS awareness projects to fundraisers for East Timor.

Peter A. Seligmann has been a leader in creating conservation solutions for the past 33 years. Since he founded the organization in 1987, CI has earned a reputation as an organization on the cutting edge, creating innovative and lasting solutions to the threats facing humanity, biodiversity and the natural systems that sustain us all. He has developed strong partnerships between CI and leaders in science, industry, government, entertainment and communities around the world. He continues to prove that healthy ecosystems are essential for the present and future well-being of humanity and all life on Earth.  Under Seligmann’s leadership, CI has pioneered conservation tools that are economically sound, scientifically based and culturally sensitive. CI’s history of improving human livelihoods through conservation has led to the organization’s emergence as a major international voice that inspires real change on the part of leaders worldwide. Seligmann serves on several corporate boards as well as on the advisory councils of the Jackson Hole Land Trust, Ecotrust and other not-for-profit organizations, including the Wild Salmon Center.  President Clinton named him a member of the Enterprise for the Americas Board in 2000.Seligmann began his career in 1976 at The Nature Conservancy, serving as the organization’s western region land steward.  He later became Director of the California Nature Conservancy.

Ms Dea Sudarman is President of Alun Alun, a modern retail space created not merely for enjoyment but also to support the development and marketing of Indonesia's culture-based products such as handicrafts, food, drinks, and entertainment in Indonesia and abroad.  The mission of AlunAlun Indonesia is to make a “Panggung Indonesia” (Stage of Indonesia) and make it the country's pride and joy. The Panggung displays Indonesia at its best, showcasing its handicraft, culinary tradition and entertainment. It is also the place for education and fun learning about Indonesia's cultural heritage. 

Ms Sudarman is an accomplished documentary film maker and anthropologist whose experience includes filming and study of the Korowai people of Southeastern Papua.

Dr Ting is a medical doctor, serial inventor of medical devices and an author. He runs a private GP clinic half a day and devotes the rest to research. His inventions include – BPro – world first wrist-worn device capable of capturing 24hr BP readings and Pulse waveform analysis both at the same time. This patented invention which is FDA approved has won many global Awards including Technology Pioneer from World Economic Forum. BPro is now commercialized in more than 25 countries in the world. Dr. Ting’s other inventions includes a non-invasive blood glucose monitor, a smart needle for intra-articular injection and a mobile ER vehicle for mass casualty that is now the standard deployment in the Singapore Homeland Defence Force.   Dr. Ting has also pioneered the technique of Visco-supplementation for the treatment of OA knees since 1991. He has done more than 25,000 knees to date and has written a handbook for doctors.  Dr. Ting is also very actively involved in the promotion of innovation culture for the nation.  In April 2008, he founded the Singapore Fellowship Of Inventors (S-FOI), together with a core group of members meeting once every monthly. In August 2008, the Inaugural INVENT SINGAPORE convention received overwhelming response. IS 09 will be held in Oct 2009. FOI has 100 members and growing.

SIP Fellow Award 2008

Claire Chiang is Senior Vice President of Banyan Tree Holdings Ltd. She is responsible for the strategic direction, management and operation of Banyan Tree and Angsana Galleries. Her diverse portfolio ranges from serving two terms in Singapore's Parliament from 1997 to 2001, to being one of two women elected to the Board of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which for 89 years had admitted only men.

In 2008, Claire received the Singapore Public Service Medal, for commendable achievement and public service. Ms Chiang's commitment towards social responsibility also extends to her roles as Co-Chairperson of the National Tripartite Initiative (NTI) on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and President of Singapore Compact.

Additionally in 2008, she was appointed Director, Non-Executive Chairperson of the Wildlife Reserve Singapore, and in November 2008, she was elected to the Global Governing Board of the Caux Round Table, an international network of principled business leaders promoting moral capitalism.

Veronica Colondam founded Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB, or Loving the Nation's Children Foundation), an independent non-profit, social foundation in 1999 out of her deep concern for the increasing incidence of drug abuse problem amongst Indonesian youth. YCAB's Youth Against Drug Abuse Club has graduated over 30,000 members, trained almost a million youths nationwide, and successfully mobilized the mass media in helping shape public opinion on drug abuse and impress upon the government the urgent need for primary prevention policies.

YCAB was commissioned by the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to act as Regional Coordinator of the Global Youth Network in 2004 and in 2007 received UN ECOSOC Consultative Status.

Veronica received the National Gold Award from the Indonesian President in 2003. In 2001, at 29, she became the youngest recipient of the United Nation's Vienna Civil Society Award.

She is a published author and weekly contributor to Media Indonesia daily and kickandy.com. Received her MSc. from the Imperial College London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicines. Veronica is a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and a fellow of Asia Society's Asia 21 Young Leaders Initiative.

Tan Ye Peng has a strong history of serving the community since his graduation from the National University of Singapore, in Computer Science, in 1997. Leveraging on his pastoral works and network, he expanded community work from Singapore to Taiwan, China, Indonesia and Malaysia. Ye Peng has been serving as director on boards of non-profit organisations and social enterprises and also as a consultant to top management of non-profit organisations in East Asia. His involvements include the Social Innovation Park (SIP) Limited, City Harvest Education Centre (CHEC), O School and CityCare.

Joining the SIP in 2006 and having been exposed to the Schwab Foundation and its summit in Zurich, Ye Peng has since focused much of his effort and influence in inculcating the concept of social entrepreneurship to leaders and the public. He travels regularly on invitation to speak and inspire leaders of organisations in many countries in Asia towards social entrepreneurship and innovation.

In 2007, Ye Peng founded CityCare, a social enterprise with a mission to build a city that cares. He hopes to combat apathy and equip young people with the values and knowledge through education, empowering them to become social change agents. In short, CityCare empowers people to help people from the heart. Thus far, CityCare has partnered with 40 schools, 12 corporations and 3 government organisations, trained 5687 students and helped 4482 beneficiaries.

Amit Wanchoo, 29 year old and trained as a medical doctor, is the Managing Director of Eaton Laboratories, the only pharmaceutical manufacturing unity in the conflict-torn Kashmir. The pharmaceutical company organizes free medical services for poor patients and provides employment to local youth as the company's social responsibility. As lyrist and lead singer of Kashmir's first and only rock band, Amit uses music to soothe Kashmiris suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder arising from the ongoing violence.

In 2001, he founded AVID, the first event-management company in Kashmir and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer. Amit is a strategy advisor to RISING KASHMIR, famous english daily from Kashmir. http://www.rising/ kashmir.com.

Amit is also an award-winning film maker whose documentary films had been selected for screening in Amsterdam (UK) and Palm Springs (US) film festivals.

Amit is a Yale World Fellow, Commonwealth Fellow, and a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow.
